Oil companies are constantly evolving to exceed industry standards and to meet government regulation. This can leave the consumer fearful and confused in the wake of it all. “The Brand That I Want is Impossible to Find!”

There are over 200 oil and gas companies in the world. This makes for a predicament when you have sourced your machinery from a different area on the globe. Companies will fill their machinery with the oil that is close to them, affordable and appropriate for the machine. However, this oil may not be readily available and affordable for the consumer. The good news is, oil is a very interchangeable product. Most oils have a “cross” which is a product under a different brand name with specifications that will work with your machine.

“This Oil Looks Like It Could Be It but the Names isn’t Perfect”

Often, lubricant manufacturers will sell the same oil under a different name, such is the case with the oil formally known as: Tellus 46. Shell has changed the oil name to Tellus S2 MX 46. This distinction was necessary because Shell has released a new and similar product called Tellus S2 VX 46. The difference between MX and VX is the premium additives in the VX, additionally, the VX conducts electricity.

“I Can only Find it in a Drum”

Need a pail but can’t find it? Sometimes, the manufacturer figures that there’s no point in manufacturing a product in smaller quantities. The good news is that they will still sell the product just not in the predetermined quantity. An example of this is with Shell Tonna 220, you can no longer buy it from Shell in pails. Thankfully, there are local distributors who are willing to buy a larger quantity and sell it to you in smaller quantities.

“I’ve Looked Everywhere and It Doesn’t Exist”

Some products have fallen into the discontinued category. This means that, you simply cannot get it anywhere as it’s just not made anymore. The good news is, oil is and lubricants are relatively interchangeable and most oil suppliers will offer an acceptable alternative to
